Death is a handmade instrument inspired by a diddley bow. It is built from a gravedigger’s shovel and uses a ¾ size double bass string, it is played using a German double bass bow and an overdrive pedal. It was built to be played as part of the composition for Now Look At What We’ve Done. It functions both as an instrument and as a sculptural object. It does not produce a clear crisp sound, it is deep and groaning with the occasional ear-splitting squeaks.
